Senate President Godswill Akpabio stated on Sunday that the Bola Tinubu administration inherited a challenging economic situation from former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele, leaving uncertainty about what charges to bring against him.

Addressing attendees at Senator Barinada Mpigi’s Thanksgiving service in Koroma, Tai Local Government Area, Rivers State, Akpabio described the economic condition left by Emefiele as "terrible."

"We did not even know what to charge him with – whether for adding frivolous expenses, unlawful possession of firearms, or printing currency without sufficient backing. I don’t know what we are going to charge him with," said Akpabio.

The Senate President emphasized that the current economic hardships and hunger were the result of past policies.

Akpabio stated that current policies and actions are contributing to hunger in Nigeria, and he acknowledged the responsibility to address this issue. He emphasized the need for all political parties to recognize the presence of hunger and assured the public that efforts are being made to improve security and living standards. 

Akpabio also appealed for patience, explaining that the longstanding challenges cannot be resolved quickly. He reassured the public that the government is committed to addressing insecurity and hunger, and urged citizens to have faith in the ongoing efforts.
